Lamartine Babo (10 January 1904 — 16 June 1963) was one of the most important popular composers of Brazil. Babo composed several of satirical sambas, marchinhas and other songs; he is especially remembered for composing anthems for all the main professional football clubs of Rio de Janeiro.

What we understand as Brazil didn't properly exist before 1930. The country had local identities and the toothless central government failed to impose his power over the brazilian states, leaving them to be controled by local oligarchies. The modern concept of Brazil was created by Vargas, both during the constitutional government and (mostly) in the New State dictatorship as a massive wave of biased educational programs and nationalist propaganda convinced the people of Brazil that they weren't citizens of their own cities or states, but of something bigger and stronger, of a country.

Composed in 1942, "O vê da Vitória" is a Brazilian WWII song, not comissioned by the Department of Press of Propaganda, however it's message is in line with the New State ideology of a strong Brazilian national identity to be used to unify all the regions of the country.

Our chests and our arms are walls of Brazil.
