"God Hand"! Playstation 2's underrated rated classic. Created by Shinji Mikami, the man behind Resident Evil and Devil May Cry; God Hand is an 80s anime inspired beat 'em up that has a heavy dose of humour spread throughout the game, but is moreso known for its high difficulty and hardcore gamer targeted audience. God Hand didn't make the splash in the gaming scene like Shinji's prior release - Resident Evil 4. But to this day; God Hand has a beloved and passionate fanbase that keep the game alive, for there is no other beat 'em up out there that can replace the style that God Hand brings. It is truly a one of a kind video game in a way.
I found God Hand to be very charming, and live up to its reputation as a game that keeps the player on their toes. While I didn't have the extreme difficulty I was worried i'd face, God Hand made sure to knock me down whenever I got a little too hyped up and over confident.
One of my biggest take aways from God Hand was the beloved cast of characters. From the protagonists, to the villains, all the way down to the random grunts. I feel the only character I wasn't too fond of was the rival of the story. He ain't no match for Gene!
The game has a host of beautiful locations to visit, and some later ones that kinda fall flat, but no matter what the area looks, the gameplay reminds consistent and only gets more interesting as you level up through the adventure. Also, be wary; there is a casino and you will get addicted. I know I did, so expected a lot of little edits to work around that footage. Good, good times.
After playing God Hand, I came away from the title feeling a little sad. As I said; it's one of a kind. But now it's so old... a classic of the mid 2000s with no sign of a HD remaster, let alone a sequel. It's understandable as God Hand didn't sell a lot, but I feel we are living in an era that this sort of action packed, no nonesense video game is needed. No walk and chats, no overly long cutscenes, just pure focus on the combat. Shinji Mikami has a lot on his hands, but a return of Gene and Olivia would be a sight to behold.

The 3D action game has the player moving in all directions, attacking with the face buttons and using special moves. The player can turn around using a button, and all actions outside of basic attacks are performed via a context sensitive button.
More powerful abilities in the game can be utilized in the player's God Reel (or God Roulette), a roulette wheel containing moves that the player chooses. These moves are limited to a number of "Roulette Orbs" that the player can increase by collecting "Skull Cards" found throughout each stage. God Reel techniques cost between one and three Roulette Orbs. Some moves send each opponents flying into the stratosphere, while others are simple punches or kicks to specific bodyparts. Another gameplay mechanic in the player's arsenal is the God Hand itself. As the player strikes and defeats enemies, his Tension Gauge goes up. The player can also evade attacks, taunt, use tension boosting attacks, or find cards within each stages to increase the bar
While in combat, the player can monitor a Difficulty Level bar that dynamically adjusts to how much damage the player is dealing or receiving. If the player gets caught up in a flurry of punches and combos, the level will drop. If the player deals a large number of unanswered attacks to their enemies, then the level will increase.
