The Scuola Grande of San Rocco in Venice, Italy, is the only active “scuola,” or confraternity, in the city. It has maintained its original appearance and magnificent painting decoration – nearly all of which was executed by Tintoretto – for the last five centuries. This episode explores the history of the Scuola of San Rocco, its importance to Venice and how Tintoretto was able to finagle the contract for its decoration.
