Video Notes

STEP 1 – Identify Your Core Values
The first step? Figure out what really matters to you.
I’m talking about your core values—those principles that guide the choices you make and what you stand for.
Ask yourself:
What do I care about most?
What kind of life do I want to lead?
When do I feel the most myself?
Write those answers down because they’re the foundation for creating meaningful goals.
For instance, if one of your values is 'family,' you might set goals that prioritize spending quality time with your loved ones. Or if 'creativity' is a core value, you might focus on artistic goals, like sketching or writing each day.

STEP 2 – Recognize Your Passions
Next up—your passions. What lights you up inside?
What activities bring you joy, and what topics or causes do you love to explore? These are the things that make your goals exciting and easier to stick to.
Ex: Passionate about healthy cooking? A goal like hosting a meal-prep workshop could combine passion and a value like community. Double win!"
Aligning your goals with both your values and passions creates a recipe for long-term motivation.

STEP 3 – Set Aligned Goals
Now it’s time to set your actual goals.
Make sure they reflect your core values and passions and use the SMART framework—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This is crucial!
Ex:
If your value is health, don’t just say ‘I want to get in shape.’ Instead, set a SMART goal like, ‘I’ll run a 5K in three months by training three times a week.’ Now you have something clear to work toward."
If there can be ambiguity about whether or not a goal has been achieved, that goal isn’t clear enough.

STEP 4 – Break It Down Into Steps
Alright, here’s where we take things one step further—literally. Big goals can feel overwhelming if you look at them all at once.
That’s why you need to break them into smaller, manageable steps."
Think of it like building LEGOs. You don’t just dump the whole box and expect it to look like a castle, right? You follow the instructions one piece at a time.
Start by identifying big milestones, then break those milestones into bite-sized tasks you can tackle daily or weekly.
Ex:
Say your goal is to run that 5K. Milestones could include building up your endurance, running two miles without stopping, then three. Daily tasks could be scheduling your workouts or tracking your progress. Pretty soon, you’ll be crossing that finish line!

STEP 5 – Check for Alignment
Here’s a quick checkpoint—ask yourself, 'Do my goals really reflect my values? Or am I chasing someone else’s idea of success?' If something feels off, don’t be afraid to adjust."
Aligned goals don’t just keep you moving forward—they keep you moving forward with purpose.

STEP 6 – Review, Reflect, and Adjust
Life changes, and so do your goals—and that’s OK!
Build in regular times to review your progress and make sure everything still aligns with your values and where you want to go.
Pro Tip:
If you’re feeling stuck or unsure, book a ReFocus Power Hour. Think of it as a reset button for your goals. Together, we’ll figure out how to get things back on track.

STEP 7 – Celebrate and Stay Motivated
Lastly, don’t forget to celebrate! Small wins add up to big results, and recognizing those milestones keeps you motivated."
Ex:
Hit a key milestone? Reward yourself—whether that’s taking a break, treating yourself to something fun, or just share with someone else what you’ve accomplished.

So, here’s your game plan. Step one, grab a piece of paper and define your values. Step two, write down one big goal that aligns with them. Step three, break it into smaller steps, and go for it!
