In this video, we demonstrate an escape from Kuzure-kesa-gatame (modified scarf hold). This is actually more of a reversal since it lands with you holding the opponent in your own Kuzure-kesa-gatame.

In both Judo and BJJ, Kuzure-kesa-gatame is a common follow-up position, used to secure the underhook after execution of a takedown or guard pass. It also provides many opportunities for submissions.

One of the differences between the rules of BJJ and Judo is the purpose/function of pinning techniques.

In Judo, you can win a match by holding the opponent with his back to the mat for a duration of 20 seconds. If a submission occurs anytime during the pin, the match is immediately over. If the bottom athlete manages to turn his back 90 or more degrees from the floor, the pin time is stopped.

In BJJ, the pins, other than mount and knee-on-belly have no point value and are primarily used to secure control, advance position, and eventually achieve a submission.
