Episode 55 - The Flinders Ranges Part 3: Parachilna Gorge

Parachilna Gorge - filled with natural beauty, a 5 star gourmet restaurant, sharp rocks and a flat tyre.

This place totally took us by surprise (in more ways than one 😂).

It’s an absolutely stunning gorge with heaps of free camping on offer. And then if you head into the actual town of Parachilna you get this stark contrast between the mountainous gorge and the vast flat nothingness of beyond.

In Parachilna you’ll find the Prairie Hotel and boy is this place a shock. Out in the middle of absolutely nowhere, in a place where the outside looks like any other outback pub you might find is probably one of the best gourmet feeds we have had (and at really reasonable prices). This place absolutely beats the pants off Maggie Beers restaurant that we visited in the Barossa.

Unfortunately as we rolled out of camp after an awesome time in Parachilna Gorge we found the only sharp rock on an otherwise great dirt road. It caused an absolute massive puncture in one of our fairly new tyres. Thankfully the Oricom tyre sensors alerted us when we’d only dropped 1psi which gave us time to find a flat spot to the change the tyre on.

Then with the spare on it was back on with our adventure to Arkaroola - but we’ll save that for the next episode.
