Today was a big day for our mustang Rooster — his very first trip into the high country wearing a pack saddle!
He’s not carrying weight just yet, but we brought him along to build experience, confidence, and exposure to real trail conditions. Clyde ponied him through the mountains while Reata tagged along too, and our trusty trail dogs, Yeti and Squirrel, were right there with us as always.
Traveling through timber and brush can be a lot for a young horse, but Rooster took it all in stride — no spooking, bolting, or overreacting. He’s showing us more and more every day that he’s going to be a solid mountain partner in the future.
And as a bonus… we even found some elk shed antlers along the way!
While Rooster won’t be heading to Wyoming with us just yet, days like this are setting the foundation for the day he can. We are wxcitwd for our pack trip into the Wind River Range! Weve stocked up on everything we need ‪@murdochs‬ and we cant wait to be packing mules into tbe backcountry!!
We’re so proud of the progress Rooster had made and excited to keep building that trust and partnership so he can come along on future pack trips!
