Birds are the only class in the animal kingdom that can actually fly. They perplex the human
mind and their design is extremely intricate in order to allow them to soar to the skies. Using
the wind as their guide, aiding them at every turn. Basically, they’re “free like a bird”…
And you know we’ve all seen the regular types of bird species… The robin, the sparrow,
common blackbird, own ad many others. However, not all birds were made equally. There are
some that look so different, so unique and so beautiful, they actually turn the heads of anyone
that crosses them. You can notice them from miles away… So that’s why we decided to take a
look at the top 10 Most Unique birds in the World. Let’s dive right in guys!
#10 Wood Duck
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_duck
They are also called the Carolina duck and their Latin name is Aix sponsa. The male wood duck
is the more colorful of the species… just look at that marvelous plumage! It has an orange beak,
green head, a black and white neck, brown chest and the underbelly is white. What a beautiful
array of colors. The female is less colorful than the male, but it has those beautiful bluish-purple
spots on its wing that are incredible.
They are found in the eastern and western coasts of the USA and the north-west of Mexico.
Furthermore, the natural habitat of these birds are swampy lands, ponds and shallow lakes. The
adults measure 19-21 inches in length and have a wingspan of around 26-29 inches.
It's fun to mention that these birds have claws which they use for perching on trees where
females lay their eggs. The little ones are born on top of a tree, usually around 450ft away from
the shoreline.
#9 Atlantic Puffin

Called the Sea Parrot, these 10- inch birds can live for up to 20 years. Their Latin name is
Fratercula arctica and they are carnivores who, unlike most birds, prefer meat over nuts and
seeds. They look very much like a penguin, but their beaks are much larger and colored red.
One fun fact about this bird is that their beaks are grey during the winter, but come spring time,
they turn red, supposedly to attract partners.
Again, we have another example of birds that spend most of their life at sea. The either rest on
the surface of the water or swim to their destination using the webbed feet. When hunting for
food, they can dive to depths of over 200 feet, but they stay there for no more than 20-30
seconds… plus their diet consists mainly of herring and sand eels.
If you thought that these birds can’t fly, think again. They can flap their wings more than 400
times per minute and travel at speeds of 55 mph.
#8 King Vulture
• King Vultures | National Geographic
The king vulture is one of the most colorful cultures in the world. It has a black and white plumage, and
the neck shines in flaming neon orange and red, with a black head and very strong beak. They use it to
SMASH THAT LIKE BUTTON IN CASE YOU HAVEN’T DONE SO, BUT actually they use it to tear into dead
carcasses they find laying on the ground after a major predator like a lion or a leopard had finished
eating.
Their main habitat is the warm climate of central and south America, from southern Mexico all the way
town to Argentina. One of their predominant features is the ability to stay in the air for hours and hours,
without hardly flapping their wings, looking for something to eat. And it’s not surprising considering the
fact that their wingspan is 5 feet long.
#7 Frigatebird
• Frigatebirds ride air currents like a...
If you thought our previous example had some amazing flying abilities, wait till you hear about
this guy. The Frigate is a genus of birds mainly found all over the tropical and subtropical
climates… and they are predominantly centered around the oceans. They have black feathers
and males possess that distinctive red pouch under their neck, which they inflate in order to
attract females. They can reach a length of 45-inches and their wingspan is 5 feet long.
Their huge wings allow them to stay up in the skies, not for hours, but days! That’s right, these
birds use the air currents to fly in the air for several days. One juvenile set the record for the
longest distance covered in the shortest time. If covered 35,000 miles in 185 days, with only 4
days of rest on the islands.
#6 Scarlet Macaw
We’ve all seen this parrot somewhere. Whether that’s movies, cartoons, documentaries…
whatever. They are extremely popular in modern culture.
