On the 20th May 2024, AVM Flewin, Air Officer Commanding No 1 Group, RAF, flew in personally to RAF Coningsby in an Augusta109 to watch Turbo's display, to review the work-up and if content, will grant Turbo the Display Pilot PDA, which means that Turbo can then demonstrate the his outstanding performance of "Moggy" Typhoon in front of crowds of hundreds of thousands of people during the summer display season. We are pleased to announce that Turbo was awarded Flt Lt Turnbull his Public Display Approval for THIS display!

This display from Turbo was the most challenging to film. It was more rapid that we have ever seen!

The Royal Air Force made history on the 22nd April 2024 by revealing their new Typhoon display livery for 2024. It has been 3 years since the last livery was produced, with the all famous and much loved ‘Blackjack’, which flew the Union Flag Livery.

As it is the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy this year, the theme to the Typhoon’s livery was given this honour. The new livery is painted in the Hawker Typhoon scheme with 257 Squadron markings which includes the squadron markings which was FM, Camo and D-Day (or invasion) Stripes.

The black and white stripes are what are known as D-Day or Invasion stripes. These stripes were to help identify friendly aircraft from enemy aircraft. The yellow slats on the leading edges of the wings also played a similar purpose to help identify allied aircraft. D-Day was a joint operation and with many countries such as Canadian, American and British involved, being hit by enemy fire would be a risk, so the D-Day stripes would help identity friendly aircraft. Though one thing to point out is that Hawker Typhoon had the black and white stripes before D-Day to not get mistaken for the Bf 109’s.

On D-Day, the specific markings FM-G, the Hawker Typhoon aircraft was flown by Pilot Officer Denzel Jenkins. The Typhoon serial is ZJ913.

This year’s RAF Typhoon Display pilot is Flt Lt David ‘Turbo’ Turnbull. We normally expect to hear callsign ANARCHY1 when it comes to the RAF Typhoon display pilot, however, this year, the display pilot's callsign is "TURBO"! Well, if there was a callsign available that had your nickname, you’d surely take it. The callsign is actually from RAF LOSSIEMOUTH’S 6 Squadron and Turbo has borrowed it from them for the year which mean 6 Squadron are without this callsign.

Flight Lieutenant David "Turbo" Turnbull is this year's RAF Typhoon Display pilot and he has already produced a particular sequence that will wow the crowds. The slow aileron roll into the max alpha is a signature manoeuvre from Turbo! He is becoming one of the best Typhoon display pilots of all time. With a hard deck of 100ft, let's ride!

We normally expect to hear callsign ANARCHY1 when it comes to the RAF Typhoon display pilot, however, this year, the display pilot's callsign is "TURBO"! Our display pilots nickname is 'Turbo' but is it not Anarchy1? We knew that this year was going to be different and TURBO is the new callsign for the display pilot, which has been borrowed from Lossiemouth's 6 Squadron.

This year's 2024 Typhoon Display Pilot, David "TURBO" Turnbull will be doing his first set of 10 practice displays at 1,500ft and then will lower it to 500ft hard deck before being allowed to smack it right down to 100ft. Once you hear callsign TURBO1, there will be excitement. However, Turbo will also be carrying out practice displays around the country, this is to prepare him and get used to performing displays away from the home base, which is what airshow season is all about. Before Turbo will be allowed to display at airshows, he will need to achieve and obtain his PDA (Public Display Authority). Without this insurance, he will not be able to display at airshows and venues. The other responsibility is once a pilot obtains a PDA, they cannot go more than 10 days with some sort of display, whether practice or real world at air shows. Failing this would result in having to re-apply for a PDA.
