Cadillac has BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi in its crosshairs as it relaunches in Australia with the Lyriq mid-sized SUV. Rather than old school petrol power, the boldly styled newcomer is powered purely by electricity, the first of a family of EVs for the brand.

The five-seater has plenty of space and delivers on comfort and it certainly stands out from a design perspective, something that should at least attract attention in the busy luxury market. But the Lyriq also needs to deliver on substance in a hotly-contested market segment.
