Stephen paid 5000 euros towards getting conneced but the ESB and Coillte (the electricity and forest boards in Ireland) reckoned it would cost near to 30.000 euros. Trees would need to be felled and poles erected, covering a mile at least. Tom Barry a local councillor asked Stephen would he go public on the issue. Stephen agreed. Through the National Press, National radio and television Stephen became a national figure and evententually got his electricity.
