The use of videoconference system on LMS Moodle to form the professional competence of future ship navigators

The article is devoted to the problem of videoconference system use in the professional training of future ship navigators. The research of article’s definitions (distance examination, video examination and technological learning) in scientific research was done. The advantages and disadvantages of the most popular video messengers (Skype, Zoom, Webex and BigBlueButton) were described. The pros and cons of BigBlueButton as a technological tool were analyzed. The ways to use this messenger integrated into LMS Moodle for training future ship navigators were also described. The research on video examination use on the example of Kherson State Maritime Academy cadets was conducted. The hypothesis of the research is that the learning of future ship navigators would be productive if model of professional competency formation using BigBlueButton videoconferences would be integrated into educational process. The set of interrelated methods (thermological, empirical and statistical one) was used to check the hypothesis of the research. The model of professional competency formation of future ship navigators with the help of videoconference system on LMS Moodle is described. The methodology of videoconference system use was created to improve the teaching. E-course on LMS Moodle was described to explain the rules of BigBlueButton use to teachers. 12 teachers and 88 cadets of Kherson State Maritime Academy took part in the experiment described in the paper. The results of the research proved positive impact of the proposed model on communicative competence formation of the cadets.
