In 2021, Safe Food celebrates 20 years of the Food Production (Safety) Act 2000 and subsequently, 20 years as a food safety regulatory agency.

Safe Food was initially established to regulate Queensland’s meat and dairy industries. However, over the past 20 years, this has grown to also include the egg, seafood and seed sprout industries.

Safe Food’s mission is to not only help these industries comply with Australian food safety standards, but to continuously drive best practice that results in more sustainable food safety outcomes for all.

Our approach is to work with industry to identify their risks and develop innovative approaches for managing them. This collaborative approach is part of Safe Food’s culture - and has been from the start.

Food safety underpins our food production sector. Without it, there wouldn’t be a domestic or export market for our food.

By working together, we’ve firmly established Queensland’s reputation as a producer or safe and quality food – something that’s recognised not just here in Australia, but around the world.

We all have a role to play in keeping food safe; from our farmers and fishers, to our processors, retailers, regulators and consumers.
Good food safety practices along the entire supply chain help keep us all healthy and keep our region prosperous.
