Uganda's decentralisation reforms have to date failed to achieve their objectives of empowered local leaders and improved service delivery.

This video discusses how corruption has undermined Uganda's decentralisation process noting trends identified in a recent article by Gerald Matembu published by the Nile Post News website. Breakdowns in accountability and oversight in Ugandan local governments and shortfalls in public sector capacity affecting local government are outlined.

Unfortunately, Uganda's high level of ingrained corruption is not going to ease in the short term. A good starting point to improving the decentralisation process would be for all politicians to effectively fulfil their mandatory accountability responsibilities which is not the case at the present time. #uganda #decentralisation #corruption
