Naomi Moran is a Nyangbal and Arakwal woman from the Bundjalung Nation in northern NSW, with bloodline ties to the Dunghutti Nation on the mid-north coast. Her cultural roots and community connections shape her approach as a leader and advocate. Naomi is widely respected for her dedication to strengthening Aboriginal voices through media and community-controlled organisations.

She has built a strong career in Indigenous media, serving as CEO of the Koori Mail, Australia’s only national, independent, Aboriginal-owned newspaper. Naomi has also served as Co-Chair of First Nations Media Australia, the peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander media, and as a member of the Federal Government’s First Nations Digital Inclusion Advisory Group.

Beyond media, Naomi has played an active role in the creative sector. She has been part of the boards of NORPA (Northern Rivers Performing Arts) and Arts Northern Rivers, contributing to the growth of Aboriginal arts and storytelling. In 2024, she was appointed to the National NAIDOC Committee, continuing her commitment to celebrating Aboriginal cultures and communities on a national scale.

Naomi’s career has been defined by her advocacy for self-determination and community-led approaches. As a Treaty Commissioner, she draws on her deep experience in grassroots leadership, her cultural authority, and her passion for ensuring Aboriginal communities have the power to govern their own affairs and shape their futures.
