Word and Art with Bishop Dolan - Christ blessing the Children

On this 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Bishop John Dolan reflects on “Christ blessing the Children,” a mid-17th century oil painting by Dutch artist Nicolaes Maes, in this week’s episode of Word and Art, in which he connects a Sunday reading with a famous work of art.

Pondering the image which portrays a small child holding an apple and pushing away from Jesus, who looks lovingly at the child, Bishop John shares about fallen humanity, caught with the forbidden fruit, but blessed by God, nonetheless.

Bishop John brings an exciting and insightful perspective to the series as he earned a Master of Arts degree in Liturgy/Church Art and Architecture from St. Patrick’s Seminary and University in Menlo Park, Calif.
