2024 UK Immigration Update: New Rules and What They Mean for Employers
Welcome back to the channel! In today’s video, we’re diving into some major updates to the UK’s immigration system that every employer and HR professional should be aware of. If you’re hiring skilled workers or navigating visa processes, these changes could significantly affect your hiring and budget planning.
The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) is seeing a massive 66% increase, going up from £624 to £1,035 per year starting on February 6, 2024. For a 5-year Skilled Worker visa, that means an increase from £3,120 to £5,175, which is quite a jump! In addition to this, the UK is replacing the Shortage Occupation List (SOL) with the Immigration Salary List (ISL). Jobs on the ISL will now have a salary threshold of £30,960 per year, and there’s no longer a salary discount for shortage occupations, unlike the previous system.
But that’s not all—there’s a significant increase in the Skilled Worker visa salary threshold. Starting in April 2024, the general salary requirement for Skilled Worker visas will rise from £26,200 to £38,700. This change is going to affect the cost of hiring skilled workers in the UK, especially if you're trying to meet the going rate for various roles.
We’ll also cover other important updates, including changes to the minimum income requirement for family visas, which will increase to £29,000 starting in April 2024, and new restrictions on dependants for Health and Care Worker Visas, which take effect on March 11, 2024. Additionally, the Global Business Mobility routes, including the Senior or Specialist Worker and UK Expansion Worker categories, will see an increase in their salary thresholds, moving from £45,800 to £48,500.
If you’re an employer, HR professional, or even an immigration advisor, these changes could affect your workforce planning, so it’s important to stay informed and ahead of the curve. This video will break down everything you need to know about these new immigration rules, salary thresholds, and other key changes that could impact your hiring processes in 2024 and beyond.
