Youn Sun Nah is a South Korean jazz vocalist acclaimed for her emotional depth, genre-blending artistry, and international presence. Born in Seoul in 1969 to a musically gifted family—her father a conductor and her mother a musical actress—she was immersed in music from an early age. Though she initially studied French literature, her path shifted dramatically after performing in the Korean musical Subway Line 1, which sparked her passion for singing.

In 1995, she moved to Paris to formally study jazz and chanson at institutions such as the CIM Jazz School and the National Music Institute of Beauvais. Her debut album Reflet was released in 2001, marking the beginning of a prolific recording career. Albums like Voyage, Same Girl, and Lento brought her widespread acclaim across Europe and Asia, with Same Girl achieving Gold status in both France and Germany.

Youn Sun Nah’s music defies easy categorization, weaving together jazz, chanson, pop, folk, and even elements of Korean traditional music. Her voice is celebrated for its clarity, range, and expressive nuance—capable of moving from whisper-soft intimacy to powerful, dramatic intensity.

She has performed at major venues and festivals worldwide, including the Montreux Jazz Festival and the closing ceremony of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. In recognition of her cultural contributions, she was named an Officier of the French Order of Arts and Letters in 2019.
