Mounting your riflescope properly is essential to ensuring efficient and consistent interface between the rifleman and the equipment.

5 Steps to Mounting a Scope (NOTES):

First, degrease the following components: Receiver, base, screws, rings, ring caps, and all threaded components

Second, affix scope base to receiver. Make sure it is oriented properly. Determine proper base placement to ensure optic and rifle functions. Ensure all screws are of properly length and that action still functions when tightened. Set base foreword for recoil if needed, break-in micro-texture. Special Applications may call for: Thread locker, Bonding base to receiver Loctite 380 Black Max or JB weld, attach base using thread locker, proper torque specs. Painting the base – use thin coats for contact surfaces.

Third, affix the lower scope rings to scope base: considering tips in step 2 above.

Fourth, determine proper optic placement. Set eye relief for the ergonomic majority (90%) of your operational environment. Position: Bench, prone, standing, kneeling, sitting, L and R handed. Consider clothing: Winter and summer. Consider other gear: armor, kit, load bearing equipment, etc…
Set for recoil control style: recoil management or free recoil - Set eye relief far enough forward to accommodate for recoil in ALL positions. Verify proper eye relief in all conditions at least 10 times to ensure proper placement. Level riflescope: Level rifle – by eye or with special leveling tools. Level optic - use plum bob to level either: Reticle VS Turrets (vertical tracking). With the rifle securely leveled pointed at a plum bob:
level reticle to plum level reticle by starting at bottom of the plum, index up to top without disturbing lay of rifle, back down to confirm. Secure scope ring caps to proper torque using threaded locker, ensure level has not been disturbed.

Fifth, proceed to zero.
