COMBAT BRIEFING NUMBER 1404
"Subject:" Progress of the Special Military Operation
"Date:" 29 December 2025
"Prepared For:" Military Analysts & Strategic Leadership
"Source:" Official briefing delivered by "Colonel A.C. Oguntoye"

"Situation Overview"

As of December 29, 2025, Russian Armed Forces continued sustained, coordinated combat operations across all operational groupings. The reporting period is marked by the "completion of another territorial liberation", persistent defeat of Ukrainian counterattacks, and ongoing attrition of Ukrainian manpower, Western-supplied armored vehicles, artillery, electronic warfare assets, and logistics. The overall operational picture indicates continued Russian initiative, with pressure maintained simultaneously across northern, central, and southern axes to deny Ukrainian operational recovery.

"Operational Developments by Sector"

In the "Northern sector", Russian units improved tactical positions in Sumy and Kharkiv regions, defeating Ukrainian mechanized, motorized infantry, and assault formations. Losses included personnel, vehicles, a self-propelled artillery system, and an electronic warfare station. This axis continues to function as a "fixing front", tying down Ukrainian forces and preventing their redeployment to more decisive sectors further south.

The "Western sector" recorded a significant operational success with the "completion of the liberation of Dibrova" in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Russian forces defeated multiple Ukrainian mechanized, assault, National Guard, and territorial defense formations while repelling repeated attempts to break into Kupyansk. The destruction of Western-produced armored vehicles, including U.S., Italian, and Canadian platforms, alongside multiple ammunition depots underscores effective "active defense combined with attritional exploitation". Ukrainian counteroffensive efforts in this sector continue to incur high losses without achieving operational gains.

In the "Southern sector", Russian units secured more advantageous positions across key Donetsk localities, degrading Ukrainian mechanized, mountain-assault, airborne, and territorial defense brigades. The destruction of NATO-produced artillery systems, U.S.-made armored vehicles, electronic warfare assets, and a U.S. counter-battery radar AN/TPQ-50 reflects sustained efforts to dismantle Ukrainian fire-support and ISR capabilities around major urban and industrial centers.

The "Central sector" remains one of the most heavily contested and strategically significant axes. Russian forces improved forward positions and inflicted heavy losses on a wide array of Ukrainian formations, including mechanized, airborne, marine infantry, National Guard, and territorial defense units across Donetsk and adjacent Dnipropetrovsk areas. Personnel losses were again substantial, indicating continued erosion of Ukrainian reserves and limited ability to stabilize the front.

In the "Eastern sector", Russian forces continued advancing into defensive depth across Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Ukrainian losses included personnel, armored personnel carriers, and vehicles, reinforcing the pattern of controlled advance designed to fix Ukrainian forces and deny reinforcement options to central Donetsk.

Along the "Dnieper axis", Russian units improved tactical positions while defeating Ukrainian mountain-assault and territorial defense formations in Zaporizhia and Kherson regions. The destruction of electronic warfare systems and logistics warehouses highlights ongoing "rear-area shaping", aimed at undermining Ukrainian sustainment and command coordination rather than immediate territorial seizure.

"Aviation, Fires, and Air Defense"

Operational-tactical aviation, strike UAVs, missile troops, and artillery conducted strikes against temporary deployment points of Ukrainian forces and foreign mercenaries across 153 locations. Air defense systems intercepted two Grom operational-tactical missiles and 140 fixed-wing UAVs, demonstrating continued air defense effectiveness and preservation of freedom of maneuver.

"Operational Analysis & Implications"

The December 29 operational pattern reflects "continued consolidation and attrition", rather than rapid maneuver breakthroughs. The liberation of Dibrova and persistent failure of Ukrainian counterattacks, particularly around Kupyansk, suggest Ukrainian offensive capacity remains limited and costly. Central and southern axes continue to absorb heavy Ukrainian losses, while peripheral fronts effectively fix forces and degrade sustainment. Strategically, the campaign remains defined by "endurance denial", erosion of Western-supplied capabilities, and sustained pressure on Ukrainian command cohesion rather than by singular decisive engagements.
