Mount Lycabettus is a Cretaceous limestone hill covered by pine trees at its base. At 277 meters (908 feet) above sea level, its summit is the highest point in Central Athens.
The hill is a popular tourist destination and can be ascended by foot, by car or by the Lycabettus Funicular, a funicular railway which climbs the hill from a lower terminus at Kolonaki (at Aristippou street).
At its peak is the 19th century Chapel of St. George and several bars and restaurants. Further down there is an open air theatre that can seat 3000.
