Subaru P0026 P0076 P0077 Variable Valve Timing VVT Solenoid Testing and Replacement

Today we're looking at Subaru's Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Solenoid. P0026, P0076 and P0077 deals with bank 1; which is the right hand side or passenger side of the engine. We will deal with the driver's side in the next episode.

This Subaru spool valve, or oil switching solenoid valve as it is commonly called, controls the variable valve lift. The system optimizes the intake valve lift by switching between the low lift cam and the high lift cam according to the engine speed. The amount of intake valve lift is varied by controlling an oil switching solenoid valve according to signals from the ECM.

A faulty VVT control solenoid can inhibit improper idling, engine hesitation and pinging under acceleration. The part number for the solenoid is Subaru 10921AA040. This part number applies for many years and models. However, check the specs for your specific vehicle.
