The CMA exam requirements are relatively simple when compared to other accounting and finance certifications. It is straightforward if you have a bachelor degree, because you are automatically qualified, without any minimum credit hour or specific course prerequisites. While you don't need to be an accounting major, a technical background is helpful when you prepare for your CMA exam.

Many students sit for the exam before they graduate, because this is allowed as long as you take at least 6 credit hours worth of courses each semester in the year. In fact, students enjoy a big discount in IMA membership as well as exam fees. For details, check out another video in this channel:    • CMA Exam Fees 2014 Update: How to Bud...

The experience is, strictly speaking, now part of the CMA exam requirements, but you need to complete what is required in order to get the certification. In general, if you work in either public or non-public accounting, or work that deals with financial management, planning and analysis, you will be fine. Teaching in related field is also acceptable. There is a list of job descriptions that you will find in this video that is accepted by the IMA.
