The southern English town of Coxheath played host to the 50th annual custard pie throwing championship as international teams competed to win the highly-prized trophy. The southern English town of Coxheath was the venue for the world custard pie throwing championship once again as the world of the wacky and eccentric gathered to mark the championship's 50th anniversary. Running from 1967 to 1987 before the trophy was lost, the annual event was resurrected in 2007. The competition brought together over a dozen British teams alongside three Japanese teams, two from France and one from Finland. Competitors must hurl five paper plates of "custard pie" at their opponents with their left hands. A hit to the face wins six points, any hit to the shoulder gets three points and the rest of the body gets a single point. The organisers mix flour with water to create their "custard" - wary of wasting too much food.
