A highlight in the Manaus area is "Meeting of the Waters." The Rio Solimoes (Amazon River) and Rio Negro meet around 10 kilometers/6.2 miles from Manaus. Here, the dark Rio Negro flows along the sandy upper Amazon. They don't MIX! Just flow alongside each other for nearly four miles. Many excursions from Manaus take sightseers to the "meeting."
