Feeding my deaths head hawk moths with the help of my twins!
My boy asked if he could pet the moth before we fed him and so I said yes you can but be gentle. He knows not to touch the wings of moths so he tried to pet him.. it’s fair to say the moth wasn’t happy and so there was no more petting and we went onto feed him.
For feeding a moth I use
A toothpick
Bottle top lid
Raw honey
Warm water

I mix warm water and honey at a ration of 50/50
I leave the mixture to cool and pour it into a small bottle top lid
I then hold the moths body firmly but not too tight and I use the tooth pick to unravel his proboscis (mouth)
Guiding the moths proboscis to the honey water mixture and once he realises it’s good he will usually start drinking. Each moth with take different lengths of time to drink but it’s usually around 30seconds.
Once he has finished, he will roll up his proboscis.
I feed the moths every other day
