Pike Fishing : Leger Tactics

Join Des Taylor as he takes a look at one of his favourite pike fishing rigs - the leger, and catches a few pike along the way. In this video you will see how Des sets up his pike leger rig, the types of bait he uses and how to minimise tangles. In the film Des describes his rig in detail. From the twin-treble trace (snap tackle) that he uses for larger deadbaits, such as smelt and mackerel for pike, to the incorporation of an uptrace to help avoid bite-offs. Another thing that Des recommends is using heavy braided main lines and strong wire that allow the hooks to be straightened (and the rig retrieved) should it become snagged. Even the oversized run rings used on the Mini Leger Booms are designed to slide over the Uptrace, reducing the chance of the rig snagging and tethering.
