What is Bon Dance for?

What is Bon Dance for? 6/18/2018. I try to explain bon dance in my own words. It's a Japanese tradition brought to Hawaiʻi from Japan during the plantation days of our grandparents and great grandparents. It has now become a community event for everyone, not just Japanese or Okinawan! You can eat, watch, dance and if you’re really ambitious you can join a club and perform for the bon dances including drumming, singing and helping to lead the dances. If anyone wants to find out about clubs to join or dance classes to take, leave a comment as I know a variety of them and maybe able to point you in the right direction.
