Shovelhead Engine - Starter Solenoid Repair

Today we will be looking at the Starter solenoid on this AMF Lowrider that seems to be exhibiting an issue. A simple test as demonstrated has localized the issue to the solenoid specifically. The click with no action was the outlaying symptom. checking that during the click the starter gets no voltage makes the determination that the solenoid, not the starter is our issue.

After disconnecting the battery, and protecting the Aluminum the connections to the solenoid, then the solenoid is removed along with its spacer. This is followed by disassembly of the unit. As disassembled we see the contacts and determine service-ablility. A brass brush cleans up these surfaces. A rebuilt kit would be used if these were beyond service. With the old grease removed new grease is applied where appropriate. Part 1028348 from Jpcycle was used to replace my old chrome cover but it didn't fit, so i'm returning it.

Everything is reassembled with a sealant at the base of the studs to keep water out. and the solenoid reinstalled; Battery reconnected. Testing determines everything is working good with this easy and cheap repair.
