Russian army personnel are using it for positioning their vehicles and tanks and also hiding inside them. As the underground mines are long network connecting one place to another the troops can easily remain hiding till they feel it is safe to take positions.

If these areas are taken over the salt and gypsum mines would help the local business grow steadily as these products are in huge demand. Putin's administration is eyeing mostly the industrial areas which could see a rise after Russia takes it over completely.
