In preparation for the February 2019 Buffalo wind storm, over 250 National Guard soldiers, airmen plus nine members of the New York Guard were deployed. The Adjutant General of New York State, Major General Ray Shields, visited Buffalo to check on preparations and to talk with the troops. During his visit Major General Shields visited soldiers at Mastin and Connecticut Street armories and then airmen of the Air National Guard, and soldiers of both the National Guard and New York Guard at the Joint Task Force 5 Operations Center at the Niagara Falls Air base. His tour ended with an appearance at New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s press conference about the wind storm response in Buffalo.
