The Weekend of Steam Galore on the Suburban Network | School Holiday Steam 2024 - (DAY ONE)

On Saturday 20th of July, we chased a series of shuttles around Wellington's suburban rail network, serviced by Steam Incorporated with the use of their mighty steam kettle Ja 1271, and their predominant diesel locomotives Da 1410 and Da 1431 (now disguised as DA 345 in its TMS numbers). Shuttles run on the 20th and the 21st of July 2024. Just like last year, they ruled the metro area with Steam and Vintage shuttles. This time, after being extremely popular last year, the team has decided to go hardcore for the entire weekend!

The first run of the day starts at Paremata where the Da's lead the train south to Wellington to embark passengers to travel on board to Upper Hutt. the Da locomotives haul the shuttles southbound and the steam locomotive Ja 1271 hauls the shuttles northbound. We have finished off our chase at Hutt River bridge (not including the night shuttles between Paekakariki and Wellington which I didn't film).

Despite the bad weather on day one of the School Holiday Steam shuttles, many railfans, passengers aboard the heritage train have had heaps of fun! same case for the train crew and the locals who have decided to come out for a crazy day of rail action.
