A Friesian Cross refers to any horse that has one parent who is a Friesian and another from a different breed. The Friesian, a historic breed from the Netherlands, is known for its majestic black coat, high-stepping gaits, and elegant presence. When crossed with other breeds, the resulting offspring often inherits the beauty, strong bone structure, and flowing mane and tail of the Friesian, while also gaining additional traits such as speed, endurance, or refinement from the other parent breed.

Popular Friesian crosses include the Friesian Sporthorse (Friesian × Warmblood), the Friesian–Arabian cross (sometimes called “Warlander” when bred with Iberian horses), and Friesian–Thoroughbred crosses. Depending on the cross, the offspring may excel in dressage, eventing, carriage driving, pleasure riding, or even western disciplines. Most Friesian crosses stand between 15 and 17 hands high, often maintaining the solid black coat, though bays, chestnuts, grays, and spotted patterns can appear when crossed with non-Friesian breeds.
