Agra Fort, located in Agra, India, is a massive and historically significant fortress built primarily from red sandstone. It was originally constructed by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1565 AD and served as the main residence of the Mughal emperors until 1638, when the capital was shifted to Delhi.

Architecture:

The fort showcases the grandeur of Mughal architecture, blending Persian, Islamic, and Indian styles.
It is surrounded by massive double walls, with the outer wall standing 40 feet high.
The fort covers an area of about 94 acres.

Important Structures:

Jahangir Mahal: A palace within the fort, built by Akbar for his son Jahangir.
Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience): Where the emperor would meet with the general public.
Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience): Used for meetings with dignitaries.
Moti Masjid: A white marble mosque within the fort.

The fort was initially built as a military structure, but Akbar and subsequent Mughal rulers converted it into a royal residence.
Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal, was later imprisoned here by his son Aurangzeb and spent the last years of his life in the fort, with a view of the Taj Mahal from his quarters.
