Union Pacifics YJA65 job out of S Janesville, WI made some unusual moves in mid April 2025.
On the 10th, they took KRL axle heavy duty flat 50803 to Beloit, went to Fairbanks Morse with it, but kept it with them and returned to the S. Janesville yard. We start out with a quick runby of the short train with three GP60’s at Walker Rd between Beloit and Clinton.
Their next run down the Stateline branch to Beloit on April 15th, they took the KRL flat along but took it right back with them without even trying to give it to FM. I caught up to them at Park St while they stopped for the rear end to line the Stateline Jct switch back for CPKC and again by Frito Lay at Cranston Rd.
On April 22nd, they finally went back to Fairbanks Morse, not to drop off the empty, but to pick up two large loads on depressed center heavy duty flats.
I caught up to them pulling out of the FM spur and over the high centered Copeland Ave crossing. This was the first time I’ve seen a CPKC track gang shadowing them as they eased the big cars over the rickety track. After a brief stop, the second car looked close to scrapping the crossing, but in spite of the twisting and flexing across the span bolstered trucks, they made it ok.
That move put them on the CPKC line to Janesville, WI and they had to change direction to get back to their train and their own railroad. At Colley Ave, the whole train goes by with the FM loads on the rear. Another 1/2 mile or so behind me to the south they reach Beloit Jct and change direction again.
After that direction change they are headed east on the old Milwaukee Racine & South Western. At the edge of Beloit at I-90, they leave CPKC trackage rights and it becomes their own railroad. A little further east we catch them again at a former station location known as Porters. About five miles east of there they get to Clinton, WI and enter the Harvard Sub for another direction change.
The final runby is at the historic Turtle Creek bridge at Tiffany about half way between Clinton and S Janesville yard.
