Most new composers (and even experienced ones)
fall into a trap.

They make music that sounds like the emotion it’s meant to represent.

Romance?
Soft strings.
Maybe a gentle trumpet on top.

Does it sound good?
Yeah, sure.

But does it surprise anyone?
Not really.

What if you flipped it?
What if someone heard your track and said:

“Wait… I didn’t expect THAT in a romance scene.”

That’s the magic.
That’s when your music becomes unforgettable.

It’s hard to imagine sometimes,
so here’s a great example:

Vangelis – Rachel’s Theme.

Yeah, it still has the trumpet.
But he didn’t stop there.

He layered it with cinematic synths.
He made it feel bigger.

It wasn’t just music…
It was a full-blown experience.

Or take the movie Cherry,
scored by Henry Jackman.

His romantic scenes don’t just say “love.”

They say:
Love + overdose + sadness, all at once.

It’s complex.
It’s human.
It sticks with you.

Dig deep.
Feel what you feel.

And you’ll create something
people actually remember.

Don't just follow the rules.
Break them with purpose.
