Gulu RCC Ambrose Onoria on Land Thefts and Wetland Encroachment

Gulu Resident City Commissioner (RCC) Ambrose Onoria has expressed his disappointment with the growing trend of illegal land acquisitions and wetland encroachments in Gulu City. Speaking to environmental activists at his office, Onoria called for the arrest of all individuals who have acquired land illegally, emphasizing the need to respect the law. He further encouraged wetland encroachers to vacate voluntarily to protect the fragile ecosystem.

Onoria criticized a recent resolution passed by the Gulu City Council allowing Okello Lawrence, Director of Oil Energy, to set up a petrol station in a wetland. He stated he was unaware of the resolution as he had left the council meeting before the motion was tabled. Activists have demanded the removal of structures being erected by Okello, who was arrested two weeks ago and charged with illegal wetland encroachment.

Onoria reaffirmed his commitment to enforcing environmental laws and urged stakeholders to prioritize the protection of Gulu’s natural resources over short-term economic gains.
