This is the definitive audiophile version of Superunknown.

You are listening to the 1994 lacquer cut by the late Dutch engineer Willem Makkee directly from the original analog master tapes. As of 2026 it is the ONLY version sourced from the original tapes, making it sonically superior to all other remasters and reissues including the tragically bungled 20th Anniversary edition.

This is the version collectors know as the "320 German Pressing" (for the number of the Hannover Polygram plant stamp in the matrix). It has by far the widest instrumental separation, the best-balanced mix (particularly drums), and zero compression. It is extremely scarce, with no copies currently available on the market - at any price.

The 32-bit/96kHz FLACs were reunited in Audition into a single 24-bit/48kHz WAV, contiguously normalized to a -1dB peak for YouTube. This was combined with the picture in Premiere Pro, encoded to a 3840x2160 ProRes video (with 24/48 LPCM lossless audio), and uploaded to YT where it is unavoidably crushed, but this format minimizes the compression (likely to 256kbps Opus rather than the typical 128 AAC).

YT is obviously not an audiophile platform but this may qualify as the most audiophile content on YouTube.

Makkee who passed away in 2017 was known for his own audiophile label "Speakers Corner Records." He was the engineer at the legendary Emil-Berliner Studios in Hannover-Langenhagen founded in 1898 which became the in-house recording facility for Deutsche Grammophon, since relocated to Berlin.

This recording may never be surpassed. It is a significant upgrade to all other remasters and reissues and will sound FAR BETTER than any other CD or LP, including the 20th anniversary edition.
