(18 Apr 2016) Heavy fighting between the Libyan army and militant forces continued in militant-controlled areas of Benghazi on Monday.
Thick black smoke from oil and chemical tanks at the city's cement factory in the Hawary district could be seen following intense fighting, which soldiers of the Libyan Army's Tank Division said had resulted in the deaths of militants "of high rank".
Libyan soldiers launched an artillery attack on militants in the area last Thursday.
They said they hoped to have taken the cement complex by the end of the day.
Benghazi, the second biggest city in the oil-rich North African nation,
was the birthplace of the 2011 uprising that toppled and killed former leader Moammar Gadhafi.
Libya has been split between rival governments since 2014, a consequence of the chaos that engulfed the country after the 2011 uprising.
