In this surfboard review, I test out (and then spontaneously purchase) the ‪@firewiresurfboards‬ Mashup hyrbid fish/everyday board for small to medium wave conditions.

I had the chance to shred the 5'10 Mashup in Waco - and it was AWESOME.

So awesome..that in fact, I went to my local ‪@SurfRide74‬ and scooped one up right after the Waco shred. Only problem was I went withe the 5'9 over the 5'10 in a moment of inspiration and sweaty rationalization.

Both boards ride great, but you'd be surpisred the difference 1 inch can make for a surfboard.

In this Hero's Journey Episode 140, I put the Firewire Mashup through its paces - riding it like I would a very similar board, the Al Merrick Pod Mod.

I'll let the review do the talking, but overall, it's a great daily driver option for 1-5 foot waves for people that want more of that front foot, fish style surfing. It also has 5 fin boxes, to ride as a quad, thruster, or 2 plus 1. I had a pair of tri ‪@futuresfins‬ in the pool, and used my go to ‪@surfnvs‬ am comps in the ocean. Also a big shoutout to ‪@flowstate_zone‬ for capturing the epic ‪@Wacosurf‬ clips!

Both board designers have spent time mixing and matching their favorite elements of each shape, and they’ve landed at something that goes fast in weak waves as well as a Seaside, and also drives vertically in good waves as well as the Spitfire. The Mashup is the ultimate groveler you'll never want to take out of your trunk.

Wave Type - With DNA from the Seaside and Spitfire, the Mashup goes fast in weak waves, but also drives vertically in good waves - a true everyday hybrid. Recommended in 1-5' surf, skewing towards average-to-poor/flat conditions.

Board Features - This shape immediately makes you feel like you've got speed and buoyancy to burn. A hybrid nose that keeps plenty of paddle up front, with step rails towards the back third of the shape to pack in extra volume. A double concave runs throughout the bottom, becoming more extreme from the center to the tail.

Helium Core Technology - A stringerless EPS core with flex controlled at the rails made from Paulownia and Balsa wood - this construction is light and lively underfoot, and excellent at generating speed in everyday waves.
