About this Türkiye 100th anniversary vlog:
In this episode, I made it to İstanbul, Türkiye for Turkey Republic Day 2023. I documented the events of this extrodinary day as a form of news reporting. I had these October 29, 2023 events circled on my calendar for a while as it is the Republic of Turkey centennial. As it was my first time in Istanbul, I hadn’t seen any of the sights yet and had a lot to see.

İstanbul was full of celebrations. I got to see Turkish flags and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk tributes everywhere. I even got to an MFÖ concert. I will add that I do not own any of the music played at the concert and am including it as fair use to document the events of the day. This Turkish history celebration was a blast! Some of the places that I go to in this travel vlog include:
- İstikal Avenue
- Beyoğlu
- Galata Tower
- Taksim Square
- Bağdat Avenue
- Maltepe Sahil Park
- Üsküdar station

About the 100th anniversary of Türkiye:
The 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye, celebrated in 2023, marked a significant milestone in the nation's history. Commemorating a century since its foundation by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the country engaged in various nationwide events and festivities. This centennial celebration was an opportunity for reflection on Turkey's transformation from the remnants of the Ottoman Empire to a modern, secular republic. Highlighting Atatürk's visionary reforms, from adopting the Latin alphabet to advancing women's rights, the anniversary was a tribute to the nation's resilience, progress, and unity. Furthermore, it symbolized Turkey's aspirations for the future, emphasizing its role as a bridge between East and West and its ongoing commitment to peace and development. The day was filled with cultural exhibitions, parades, and performances, reflecting the rich tapestry of Turkey's heritage and its hope for a prosperous future.

About the Republic of Türkiye:
The Republic of Türkiye, commonly known as Turkey, was officially proclaimed on October 29, 1923, with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk as its first president. Emerging from the remnants of the Ottoman Empire after World War I, Atatürk introduced sweeping reforms to modernize the country. These changes spanned from replacing the Arabic script with the Latin alphabet to the secularization of the state, separating religion from politics.
Atatürk's leadership prioritized education, women's rights, and industrialization, helping to steer Turkey toward becoming a progressive nation. After he died in 1938, Turkey maintained its neutral stance in World War II but later joined NATO in 1952, aligning with the West during the Cold War era.
The second half of the 20th century saw multiple military coups, reflecting the tensions between secular and religious factions. Turkey also experienced significant economic growth, but this was accompanied by periods of inflation and political instability.
In the 21st century, Turkey has been at the crossroads of geopolitical challenges, especially with its strategic position in the Middle East. Turkey remains a pivotal country, balancing its rich history with its aspirations for the future.
