1942 Beals and Selkirk Military Footlocker Restoration

Recently was blessed to find an old military footlocker at a local garage sale. Originally manufactured by the Beals and Selkirk Company (Wyandotte, Mich.) and stamped 1942, this footlocker was in fair shape. This is not a full restore to like new condition but rather a deep clean, repair and preservation to retain the time worn "patina." Boot scuffs adorn all sides of this footlocker. Strangely, there was no name, rank or military organization stenciled on this piece. Moisture had caused the outer plywood veneer to separate. There is very little info on YouTube on how to repair this sort of damage to a footlocker. I applied some of the techniques I found on furniture veneer repair videos along with my own innovations. I also repaired the "lid stay" which did not get videoed. It took 3 attempts for me to get a good solid repair on the stay. The first attempt resulting in the lid falling while I had my head inside the truck—that did not feel good. Otherwise, I am very pleased with the results. It feels rock solid and won't fall apart if filled and transported the way it was intended. I believe this item will still be looking great 100 years from now, so long as it doesn't get stored on a wet basement floor.
