During the Second World War, all countries used spies and espionage to get the upper hand over their enemy. The Nazis utilised the Gestapo and the SD to get information about their enemies military operations, and the British had a group of spies known as SOE. Special Operations Executive were spies who worked with local resistance to carry out sabotage operations and counter intelligence against the Germans. There were a number of spies who served in SOE, but if they were caught they were usually tortured brutally and executed by the Nazis.

One such spy was Noor Inayat Khan who was the first female wireless operator to work in Nazi occupied territory behind enemy lines. She was from a very prosperous and high status Indian family, with her father being the leader of religious teachings. However after living in France and returning to England when World War 2 broke out, she sought a career in the air force before being recruited for SOE. She was fluent in French which was ideal and she began training as a special agent, but was doubted by her trainers. She was selected and the flown into France and for a few months worked as a radio transmitter, carrying messages from Britain to the French Resistance. However eventually she was turned over and betrayed, and she found herself imprisoned inside Dachau Concentration Camp.

Dachau was known for being one of the most brutal concentration camps, with torture occurring regularly there. Dozens of thousands would die inside of Dachau, and Noor Inayat Khan was taken here as she was considered very dangerous by the Germans. After horrific torture in which she was shackled for 10 months, she was executed by the Germans inside of the camp, alongside 3 other female SOE agents.
