It’s time to go shopping to the markets, aka Mercados!
Whether you are a visitor in the Huatulco area, or live here, you will likely end up at least once at one, if not all of the 3 markets (known as Mercados) in town.
The first one we visit is in Santa Cruz Huatulco, next to the Santa Cruz Marina, and the cruise ship dock. Here you can find all things beach related, be it bathing suits, floating aids, snorkeling gear, suntan lotions, towels and sunglasses. You can also find plenty of souvenir items such as alebrijes, bottles of Mezcal, tShirts, keychains, bottle openers, hats, notepads and much more.
The second market in downtown La Crucecita (best known by visitors as downtown Huatulco) you can find all the above, along with many Mexican crafts, Traditional Mexican clothing and pottery. Here the Mexican market culture is very much alive.
Lastly, we head to the market that many locals shop at, where you can find all of the above still, and more - such as hardware stores, shoe store, fruit stand, a hairdresser/barber and much, much more.
Don’t worry, during or after all the shopping you just did, there is always a food court, or a restaurant just around the corner from where you are standing, in each of the markets - to quench your thirst or help with your hunger.
All 3 of these Mercados are a true feast for your senses, with the smells, the colours and the hustle and bustle of people surrounding you.
