When I get called to "one man band" an interview setup, this is my go-to solution for capturing clean audio, without the hassle of dealing with a wireless lav.

When I'm already running two cameras, handling logistics of a production day, monitoring batteries on lights and more, I really have no desire to mess around with a wireless lav (scanning frequencies, interference, rustle, etc). And since almost all of my work requires getting on an airplane, I've had to tinker with what the most space-efficient boom setup is.
I'm also being budget conscious here, since as a cinematographer I would ALWAYS prefer to have a dedicated location sound operator, and I'll rarely get a good rate for bringing a basic audio kit. You could absolutely save weight going with carbon fiber options, or get rid of the XLR cable and use a pole with a built in cable - but both of those options require a bigger investment.
