Large Scale Screening for Social Determinants in Pediatric Settings: Promise and Peril

This presentation will start with a definition of social determinants of health. It will then discuss the rationale and evidence behind screening. The speaker will discuss best practices for screening. The presentation will review recent promotion of screening by Joint Commission, CMS, US News and World Report hospital rankings, and payers. Then the presenter will describe the challenges of large-scale screening in pediatric settings (e.g., different goals and incentives for screening). The presentation will conclude with recommendations on how to screen for social determinants in large pediatric settings.
