Sorry, but this is going to be really long and messy with comas and ands. And Loki's the best so here you go.
Loki never does anything horrible before he finds out he is a frost giant, but he does play mean jokes and does lie, but that's just his prankster personality. He is also visibly not liked by or respected, like a prince should be, by Siff and the Warriors three and he never got attention from his father and he usually doesn’t talk when both Odin and Thor are in the same room because he learned that he wasn’t important, so his only way to be heard was by playing jokes or other stuff and none of these ever make any big problems other than the one where he lets Jotuns into Asgard causing Thor’s banishment. Lady Sif and the warriors three really don’t like Loki or care about him, but Loki actually does and considers them his friends for a while. And you can tell that when they are fighting the Jotuns and Loki is getting a hint that he is a Jotun so he doesn’t say that they need to leave yet even though he is clearly afraid of what just happened. The only time when he says they need to go is when one of them gets badly injured and he actually saves him from being killed. People say that after Odin went into the Odinsleep that Loki just assumed the throne, but there is a deleted scene that shows Frigga telling Loki to take the throne while Odin sleeps. And also, the warriors three did kinda break the rules in trying to bring Thor back. They really did betray Odin by contradicting his last order. When Thor comes back and Loki and him are fighting, Loki says, "I'm not your brother....I never was." right after he says that is when it finally hits him that not only is he not Odin's son, but Thor is not his brother and all the times before he wasn't. Before Loki lets go and "dies" he is desperate with his father when he is saying that he "could have done it". He wants to, again, prove to his father that he isn't a Jotun and that's all he wants, and he doesn't want the throne(like he says when fighting Thor) and he just wants to prove to his father that he is as good as Thor(not in the best way though). And when Odin says "No Loki'' Loki just wants to die. His father’s approval would have meant everything to him, but no and Odin could have said something more nicely instead of No while his son is hanging off a cliff and could let go any second, which he did. Now there is not any actual knowing of how Loki was found by Thanos, but he was, and he was tortured by Thanos to do what he wanted. Now for the facts of him being tortured by Thanos there are many. In the Thor end credits scene when you see him, he looks awful. He is badly bruised and burned and does not look okay. And his teeth also look rotted. When he comes to earth in Avengers, he talks about how he needs to free people from freedom and "only then will they know peace", which indicates that he struggled to have freedom(fighting Thanos's torture and demands) and he only knew peace when he obeyed. Also, when Loki is walking about with his mind-controlled people he visibly slowly stumbles and almost falls over(not the Tom accidentally falling, that's been confirmed) and one of the guys put his hand on his back to support Loki. Loki also is sweating constantly throughout the first scene indicating that he is nervous, exhausted, or something traumatic has just happened to him(aftershock effects of torture). When he gets into the back of the truck his back gives out and he falls into the back. You can only see it for a few seconds, but he is shaking when he gets in the truck before it drives off. Later in the movie when Thor comes, he talks about how he was a shadow in their family and never felt wanted. Also, another part indicating that he was tortured and brainwashed by Thanos is when he tells Thor "I remember you tossing me into an abyss". Remember Loki wanted to die and let go of his own free will, so Thanos must have tortured him into remembering differently. When he visits Thanos's minion and talks with him, Loki is visibly afraid of him and Thanos's minion at one point says, "You think you know pain?!" which means that Loki has been through pain and this guy knows about it and was probably there for most of it. Also remember that Thanos tortures his children and one of them(Gamora)he loves deeply. So, if he is fine torturing his children then I don't think that he has any problems with torturing other people that he doesn't even like more than his children. Before Loki is done talking with Thanos's minion he is visibly crying because of his fear of them.
