HOW TO INSTALL A WATER PUMP

Hi everyone,

As you are all aware of the power pandemic in our beloved country, your girl handed the situation in January this year (2021) by installing a tank and a water pump in the backyard.

We got a quote from the plumber that the job would cost us R3.5k, yup with all the fittings supplied by us, and the distance from the municipal water pipe to the tank not more than 2.5 meters away.

We bought the tank & pump in August 2020 and it was just collecting dust. One week of the town not having water and a husband that just had back surgery that very week, I was just thrown off with everything.

I asked my husband to draw me a diagram of the pipe connections, which he did. He then wrote all the extra fittings I'd need to accomplish the job.
We were on video call the entire time as I was doing the installations & my eldest daughter helping me out. It was a days work, worth it.

So now with all the load shedding, the old pump packed up and we got a new pump and yes you guessed right, I'm installing it 😊.
Having the tank and pump has been a game changer for us.

But one thing that stood out to me when doing the installation, was on the wiring.
If you aren't comfortable with doing electrical work, please get a professional, I am not one. I'm only sharing information that helped me as a diyer.

Most pumps will come with wiring that is clueless to most diyers. So now, I had to figure out what a U & V meant on the motor's connectors.

To simplify things for you, the yellow wiring is for Earth, the blue is for the U and the brown is for the V. Unfortunately I can't explain any further than that. It worked, that is all that matters.
