Wood carving is one Bali’s most popular art forms. It is also carver Wayan Rendah’s life.

His father taught him the art of traditional Balinese wood carving when he was 8 years old.

After he graduated, he studied with one of Bali’s last master wood carvers, Wayan Mudana, who taught him to take artistic inspiration from the form and texture of the wood.

It originated as a form of spiritual devotion.

“Regular income from UNICEF Market means so much to my family and the 20 other carvers I work! We started with nothing. Now we have savings, and are building houses.”
