Talk about tough! If your looking for a challenging trail, then Tanner trail might just be for you!!! This trail offers no mercy! From the rim to the river you can expect every joint in your body to be tested. The trail is very steep with rough terrain for a good part of the hike down. Hiking sticks highly recommended! Also Expect to encounter a variety of different terrains. Lots of big rocks to climb over and lose gravel, also some areas may feel a little exposed so if you are afraid of hikes, this is not the hike for you. You will find some parts of the trail to be fairly nice and easy to hike. No mercy!! This trail can be brutal during the summer months , so it’s not recommended to hike in summer as there is not much shade and it can get really hot! But most important. NO WATER until you reach the bottom!! So plan on bringing filtration for the river and too much water is not enough water, so plan smart! Tanner trail is located in the South Rim of the Grand canyon. The trail is rarely maintained and don’t expect to find to many hikers as the trail can sometimes be pretty lonely. Surprisingly we encountered more backpackers than expected. But if your up for the challenge then prepare for some of the most epics views of the Canyon including views of the Grand Canyon Supergroup, colored layers upon layers of ancient sediment and indegenous rocks that have been exposed over time. This Hike is NOT recommended to do in a day. We did three nights of camping. 16.9 miles out and back. #grandcanyon #backpacking #adventure #nationalpark
